Chiropractic Victim or Victor?

For the next couple of posts, we’ll discuss Monday Morning Choices by David Cottrell. He lists 12, but we’re going to review my favorites.

# 1 – The No Victim Choice (don’t let the past eat your future)!

We’ve got Doctor A, and Doctor B.  Both went to the same school, and graduated with the same GPA.  They both opened their doors the same month in the same town.

Doctor A will typically see 2 new patients per month at best.  He complains that he opened in the wrong area of town.  He also blames his lack of success on insurance companies, the unemployment rate and the health care crisis.  He frequently plays on the internet in his office while he waits for patients to come in.

Doctor B averages 30 new patients per month.  He is looking for an associate and considering opening a satellite clinic.  If he has any down time, he gets out into his community to do talks and screenings.

Afraid of growth in your chiropractic practice?

Are you the type of person that fights to break down the walls of living in a box or are you very comfortable there?  In your chiropractic practice, are you comfortable where you are?  You might say, “well, at least I pay my bills”…..but is that ALL you’re doing? Are you just barely getting by, but the pressure is off because you ARE getting by?

Need help in your chiropractic practice?

I’m hoping you read the last blog about the chiropractor that lost all hope and the state of our profession.  I know today was supposed to be on character, but we’ll do that next time.  I wanted to let everyone know about a special opportunity available on a first come first served basis.

Is your mission a referral practice? – Part 3

I know asking for a referral can be a little overwhelming for some and it’s expecting you to step way out of your box.  I also know sometimes pride will get in the way because doctors don’t want to feel like they’re begging for patients.

AMC gives their doctors many, many tools to use that aid in asking patients for referrals and makes it really quite simple.  Often times it’s accomplished in such a way that you’re not directly asking, but the patient gets the idea from what you say to them.

Second (well, really this should be first), you’ll want to make sure your patients know HOW to convey that chiropractic can help their friend or family member.

Is your mission a referral practice? – Part 2

Your mission can’t go where the wind blows!  I doubt you’d be too successful.  These are not the same as goals.

Your mission statement will also hold you accountable (if you review it frequently).  I had the opportunity to observe a court proceeding not too long ago & the judge made a profound statement.  When the defendant asked about his probation ending, the judge replied “Probation never ends.  You’re on probation from the minute you’re born and will be on probation until you’re gone.”

Have you ever taken a long road trip?

I’m not talking about a three to four hour drive, but at least eight hours or more.  The kind of trip that takes a lot of preparation.  You need to make sure you have good air pressure in the tires.  Is the oil changed?  Is the gas tank full?  Have you packed all of the things you need for the trip?  Snacks, phone, computer, supplies and whatever you might need when you get to your destination.

You’ve got your checklist and you’ve checked it twice.  But many times, you get ten miles down the road and realize……..”oh no! I forgot my phone charger!”

The Simplest Answer Is To Act – Part 2

Write down short term things to shoot for as well as long term.  It doesn’t matter if it sounds crazy….it’s a starting point.

After thinking of general goals – you’ll want to get more specific.  Know exactly what you want to achieve in as much detail as possible and write it down.  An unwritten goal is only a wish.  Put a deadline on your goal.

How long do you give yourself to reach it?  What are the action steps you will take daily or weekly to bring you closer to your goal?  There is a lot more that can go into goal setting but this is the way to start.

The simplest answer is to act.

The Simplest Answer Is To Act – Part 1

The simplest answer is to act.

That statement was in my fortune cookie from one of my favorite restaurants, P.F. Chang’s.  This can be applied to so many different aspects of your life.

Do you currently have so much clutter on your desk that you can’t see the wood?  Do you want to double or triple your practice, but don’t know where to start?  Do you wish you had someone to talk to that’s been where you want to go?
